Dear La Côte family and friends,
'Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow' (Lamentations 1:12). This verse in our daily Morning Prayer this Holy Week and often sung on Good Friday, invites us to stop and share Christ's pain. How easy it is to 'pass by', as in the parable of the Good Samaritan, to avoid engaging with suffering. Let us take time this week to stop and be aware of where Christ suffers now, with those even within our church family experiencing a personal calvary at this time. Or in the devastating violence in so many parts of the world.
As we share in Christ's sorrow in these turbulent times, we do so as 'Easter people'. We know the end of the story and give thanks that there is nowhere beyond the reach of God's presence and love.
When I look at the blood all I see is love, love, love. When I stop at the cross I can see the love of God.
But I can’t see competition. I can’t see hierarchy. I can’t see pride or prejudice or the abuse of authority. I can’t see lust for power. I can’t see manipulation. I can’t see rage or anger or selfish ambition.
I can’t see unforgiveness. I can’t see hate or envy. I can’t see stupid fighting or bitterness, or jealousy. I can’t see empire building. I can’t see self-importance. I can’t see back-stabbing or vanity or arrogance.
I see surrender, sacrifice, salvation, humility, righteousness, faithfulness, grace, forgiveness, love! Love … love…
When I stop! … at the cross I can see the love of God.

An update from Carolyn
Dear La Côte Church family and friends,
I am making steady progress in terms of my healing and mobility following my hip replacement. I am taking medical advice to focus on rehabilitation and rest for a few more weeks before heading back into public ministry. Very many thanks for your prayers and messages.
I have appreciated keeping up with church life through contact with our Church Warden, Liz Bramley and our ordinand and licensed Reader, Betty Talbot. I’m so glad that you have appreciated the inspiring and loving visiting preachers and priests guiding you through Lent. And now we are into the most crucial of weeks in our church calendar, on Jesus’ path of suffering where we find God with us in all that is broken and hurting. I will be praying for you as you gather to recall the events of Jesus’ Last Supper, betrayal, and cruel death. I will also be with you in spirit as you celebrate resurrection love and hope on Easter morning.
With my heartfelt thanks to all of you who have shared the journey at La Côte Church, in leadership and in companionship with one another, in the rich variety of church worship, life and mission.
I very much look forward to being with you again in late April. In the meantime, you are often in my thoughts and prayers. May you know the reconciling, healing love of Christ and the joy of new life this Easter!
With warmest greetings, Carolyn
Reminder to fill in the Bossey Day survey
Carolyn and the Chaplaincy Council would love to know what you thought of the recent away day in Bossey – or why you didn't attend.
If you were there, we’d like to know what you thought of the day, what you liked, and what we could improve next time.
If you didn’t go, we’d be interested in hearing what kept you away, and what could perhaps persuade you to come to next year’s event.
So whether you were at Bossey or not, please fill in our survey – it will only take 5 minutes.
