To La Côte Church family and friends and visitors,

Dear *|FIRSTNAME|*

This week the General Secretary of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, delivered a powerful address to world leaders gathered for the opening day of the General Assembly.

“Our world is in big trouble. Divides are growing deeper; inequalities are growing wider; challenges are spreading farther... we need hope... we need action across the board.”

He went on to signal the ships that are carrying “one of today’s rarest commodities: Hope.” Hope born out of cooperation between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, with the support of Turkiye. These ships, despite enormous complexities, doomsayers and the horrors of war, have set sail across the Black Sea carrying tonnes of Ukrainian wheat to Ethiopia, Yemen and beyond.

We pray for our leaders for boldness to keep reaching out in cooperation across the board at every level. We ask God for renewed vision and courage to persist in such connections in our own spheres of influence, always looking for how we can respond together to the challenges of our time.

Loving and merciful God,
Help us to follow in the footsteps of your Son, Jesus Christ, who showed us the way of costly love and godly justice. We thank you for leaders, such as Antonio Gutierrez, who inspire us and at great personal cost strive for understanding and collaboration between nations. Grant them fresh wisdom and stamina and ground them in your love and peace.

Lead us to take steps to bridge the divides and to level out the growing inequalities around us. As you lead us, renew our hope and trust in you, and when we stumble, may we discover that you are always with us, to lift us up, dust us down and lead us on. Amen.

Carolyn
