To La Côte Church family and friends and visitors,
Dear *|FIRSTNAME|*
Due to the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday 8th September, our worship on Sunday 11th September will focus on remembering her remarkable life of service and faith. For over 70 years, as sovereign, she has served as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, to which the Diocese in Europe belongs.
While we recognise that we are an international church family with many Christian denominations gathering each week, we hope you will all be able to share in this journey of mourning and loss, together with thanksgiving for the gift of her leadership and for the example of her devout faith.
Here are two prayers adapted from the Church of England website:
Eternal God, our heavenly Father, we bless your holy name for all that you have given us in and through the life of your servant Queen Elizabeth. We give you thanks: for her love of family and her gift of friendship; for her devotion to her nation and the nations of the Commonwealth; for her grace, dignity and courtesy; and for her generosity and love of life.
We praise you for: the courage that she showed in testing times; the depth of her Christian faith; and the witness she bore to it in word and deed. Accept our thanks and praise, we pray, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Father of all mercies and God of all consolation, you pursue us with untiring love and dispel the shadow of death with the bright dawn of life. Give courage to all who mourn, including her close family, in their loss and sorrow. Be their refuge and strength, O Lord; reassure them of your continuing love. By your Holy Spirit, come alongside all your people, remind us of your eternal presence and give us your comfort and strength. Amen.
In addition to the two main services on Sunday, the following Sunday 18 September we will offer a third opportunity for prayer and thanksgiving at our 16.00 service in Gingins. Please check the website for confirmation and further details.
There will also be a book of condolence in which to write at the services on Sunday. Please feel free to bring any tribute you feel appropriate – maybe a photo, flowers, a prayer or poem to place at the altar (and take away afterwards). You may also like to send me, (Carolyn) something which we can share in our worship or insert into the book of condolence.
A place for prayer and remembering: In addition, starting Monday 12 September, La Cote Church welcome you to the Temple de Crassier, on the border between Switzerland and France, where there will be a table of Remembrance with the book of condolence and an opportunity for quiet prayer. The church will be open during daylight hours every day, except Friday 16 September in the morning.
The Service at 16.00 on Sunday 11 September will be live-streamed. Please check the website on Saturday for the order of service and zoom link.
Please visit our website homepage for details of our services – and feel free to invite your friends, family and neighbours who would like to join us in remembering the Queen.
