To La Côte Church family and friends and visitors,

Dear *|FIRSTNAME|*,

This coming Sunday is Advent Sunday. We will be focusing on Advent Hope and exploring on what our Christian hope is founded, even when life around us seems to be in turmoil.

Although it is easy to let the gloom of darker days and long nights enter our lives, Advent is also an encouragement to celebrate the coming of God to us in human form, and one day coming again. We also seek to be alert to God drawing near in our every day lives and pray for eyes and hearts to be open to the divine presence with us today.

I encourage you to mark the passing of the days of Advent by lighting a candle at some moment each day either as part of an Advent wreath or just a single candle. Here is a simple prayer as you light the candle – praying it for yourself and for those on your heart at the moment:

Come, Lord God, lighten our darkness

Come, Lord God, fill us with your love

Come, Lord God, keep us in your peace

Come, Lord God, be known among us

Come, Lord God.

(Adapted from A Celebration of Winter, David Adam)

And today we also pray this prayer for our "North American" sisters and brothers as they celebrate Thanksgiving. Congratulations to you all!

As we embark on Advent - here is our Christmas programme. We hope you will be able to join us in worship and will find refreshment, friendship and comfort among us. Please also consider who you could invite to come along and share with us during this season.

In addition, two of the services are being prepared and led jointly with local churches : Jazz Carols and Blue Christmas. Publicity for Blue Christmas service will be out soon.

Charlie Whetham father of 3 of our youth at La Côte, has come up with an idea to support our young people in their faith during our Sunday morning services.

Charlie writes : " With a growing and intellectually-curious group of children in the church, we would like to be able to pass on to them the huge accumulated wisdom which you each have. We are exploring a series of mini-seminars for the children during Sunday services. Read more

For this initiative, we will need a third faciliator to work with Charlie and Ed Kelley.
