To La Côte Church family and friends,

Dear friends,

In our worship last week we remembered the Ascension, when the physical risen Jesus left the earth to return to the Godhead. He commanded his disciples to wait for the promise, a gift that he would send them. This weekend we turn our focus towards Pentecost to celebrate the fulfilment of this promise, in the weird and wonderful outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Jesus’ followers in Jerusalem. I cannot imagine our Christian faith without the Holy Spirit, the breath of God who brings life into everything and everyone. Here is an inspiring invitation to pray with Sister Joan Chittister OSB, (make sure you get to the end to offer your own longings to God):

The Holy Spirit embodies the life force of the universe, the power of God, the animating energy present in all things and captured by none. On this great feast of Pentecost, the coming of the Spirit of God, I invite you to pray with me.

May the Gifts of the Holy Spirit
bring fire to the earth
so that the presence of God
may be seen
in a new light,
in new places,
in new ways.

May our own hearts
burst into flame
so that no obstacle,
no matter how great,
ever obstructs the message
of the God within each of us.

May we come to trust
the Word of God in our heart,
to speak it with courage,
to follow it faithfully
and to fan it to flame in others.

May the Jesus
who filled women
with his Holy Spirit
fill the world and the church
with new respect
for women's power and presence.

Give me, Great God,
a sense of the Breath of Spirit
within me as I... (State the intention
in your own life at this time
for which you are praying.)

In the name of your Risen Son, Jesus the Christ, Amen

An opportunity to serve with our children in La Côte Church Sunday club

As some of our valuable Sunday club leaders are stepping back from our team, we are reaching out to offer this opportunity to our church community to help with our children’s programme. This is an opportunity for new volunteers to either take the lead with Sunday club sessions or to support another leader.

The volunteers who are moving on can confirm that it is wonderful to learn from and with this lovely group of children and welcoming them is an essential part of nurturing our church community. Ideally volunteers would help at least once a month, in order to build relationships and stability for our children. However, any help is welcome. We have good online resources for the Sunday club sessions and can train and support new leaders as well as helping them with safeguarding checks.

We would also love to hear from parents who would like to help out as well as those whose children went through the programme previously. Everyone has something to contribute! Please contact Carolyn to explore this option further.

PLEASE NOTE – If you are unable to attend one of our main services but would like Holy Communion or private prayer in personal visit, please contact Carolyn Cooke.

For any prayer requests for yourself or others, please contact Peta Tracey who will share in confidence with our Tuesday prayer group where we pray for the needs of our world and community.

Pastoral Care

One of the Church Council priorities is pastoral care and we recognise that a huge amount of care is already going on in our community.

In order to support this and to care for people who might otherwise slip through the cracks, we are building a team of people who can, or who already, provide practical and emotional support.

If you are interested in joining this team, please contact Louise Burrows for more information. lburrows1972@gmail.com
