To La Côte Church family and friends and visitors,
Dear *|FIRSTNAME|*
This coming Sunday we will be marking Remembrance Sunday. In our worship we will be helped to remember the horrors of war and the bravery of individuals through story, music and silence. Our remembering the past, brings our history into the present and aims to inspire our work for reconciliation, peace and justice in the future. Here is a prayer to help us remember in this way.
Loving God, once more we are reminded at this time of year of the terrible cost of war, the suffering and sacrifice of so many, the depths of inhumanity some have sunk to, and the heights others have climbed in the service of others. Teach us to remember, not just today but always.
We hear on Remembrance Sunday words that have been spoken so many times over the years, words in which we promise never to forget. Yet the tragedy is we do forget, all too easily – this annual remembrance a token gesture, observed sincerely and respectfully but then over and done with for another year. Teach us to remember, not just today but always.
We forget how fortunate we are to live in freedom, how lucky we are to enjoy relative peace. We forget how some still suffer from the wounds of battle, and others continue to mourn their loved ones. Teach us to remember, not just today but always.
When we say: “At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them” may we truly remember them, and in so doing – re-member ourselves, for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

An announcement about Connie Siedler, our current children and youth worker
Carolyn writes:
Recently, Liz Bramley, (as Church Warden), Connie and I met to review the role of children and youth worker at La Cote. After much reflection, discussion and prayer, Connie has decided to step back from her role. We are grateful to her for the loving and faithful work she has done with us over the last 8 months and will be able to say goodbye to her on 20 November at our 10.00am service in Gingins.
Just to reassure you that we are not abandoning our care and nurture of our children and youth. We would welcome hearing from you if you feel you could join our dedicated team of Sunday club leaders or feel that you could come alongside our older children and youth. We value your prayers, wisdom and input as we seek to serve the whole of the family, little ones, children, youth and adults.
We also keep Connie in our prayers at this time of transition and uncertainty.
My prayer is that we will be open to the Spirit of God, leading us through these times of change, and learn to trust in the abundance and faithfulness of God who is with us and for us.

News about two members of our wider church community
ANNE HAYES It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Anne Hayes, member of the Scottish Church in Geneva, but also long-time member of our La Cote Church prayer group. After a brave fight with cancer, she passed away peacefully on Thursday 10 November in Aubonne Hospital. Her husband, Ken, writes: We are all heartbroken but doing our best to honour her example of forever being positive. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, and we were lucky to have her in our lives. Further news of the funeral will be communicated next week.
MARIE-CHRISTINE NIBAGWIRE An Anglican remembrance service for Marie Christine Nibagwire will take place tomorrow - Saturday, 12 November at 15h, at All Saints Church, Vevey. Marie-Christine, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide, has inspired many of us with her courageous faith and trust in God in the midst of trauma and loss.
We keep both families in our prayers, for God’s loving presence to enfold and sustain them in their shock and grief. We entrust Anne and Marie-Christine to God’s everlasting love, giving thanks for the way they shined like stars when alive, and will continue to do so through so many lives that they touched with God’s grace.
