Dear friends,

Looking towards our Gift Day on 11 June, today we hear from Heidi and Richard Hawkings.

Psalm 98:1, 4 – O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises.

Music is part of God’s created order, and human music participates in the music of creation. In creating us, God has given us the gift of music – the ability to sing and to play instruments. By gathering our voices in song, we offer back to God the very abilities given to us.

Each of us comes to worship bringing all that we are and whatever we are going through – some are happy, some are sad, some are struggling or hurting, some are thriving. When we sing to God together, we blend our voices, making a sound “as one” (‘though we are many, we are one Body’ (Rom. 12:5)). Singing can be especially corporate; it is for the glory of God and for the encouragement of God’s people.

The song group at La Côte is made up of singers who give to the community by enthusiastically supporting our musical worship. We regularly meet to learn new music with the aim of enhancing the worship experience for everyone. Our sense is that this is a gift offered for the glory of God and for the uplifting of the whole of our church community.
